Having explained in parables what the kingdom is and what it is like, Jesus gives Peter the keys to it. The keys of the kingdom somehow therefore unlock the doors to this kingdom. (Matthew 16:13-20).
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
Jesus has given us the keys to his kingdom. Just check back through Matthew’s gospel to see the kind of things these keys unlock.
Now don’t lose them!
Jesus has given us the keys OF the Kingdom rather than the keys TO the Kingdom. The keys are to open the closets of our hearts for the Holy Spirit to clean up the emotional garbage that is within us and to open the treasure store of our hearts so that forgiveness, acceptance and love can overflow to others.
