When They Ruled the World

When They Ruled the World

Apr 1st, 2009 by Tim 1

As leaders from across the globe roll into London for the G20 summit, the events of that first Palm Sunday seem all the more significant. So I felt compelled, fresh from reading Marcus Borg on Jesus: Uncovering the Life, Teachings, and Relevance of a Religious Revolutionary, to make this video. It is also a great excuse to play ColdPlay in church on Sunday.

As Pilate, that symbol of imperial rule and domination, arrives through one gate, Jesus arrives on a donkey through another. The president’s Boeing 747 touches down in the UK and transfers to his helicopter. The earth groans at the carbon footprint he just left, but perhaps somewhere someone is riding to Downing Street on their bicycle with a new agenda.

Mostly assembled from footage found on YouTube.
