Set the Captives Free
Sunday 25th March marks the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. This is an opportunity to remind ourselves of the roles played by Christians during this period of history. For the years of blindness and ignorance, for those who rolled out their biblical justifications for slavery and for the courageous intervention of people like William Wilberforce who sought to bring an end to this evil trade.

Is it time to assess our own attitudes towards injustice and inequality in our current society, and to ask whether we are willing to finish the work begun by people like Wilberforce and end slavery and its legacies once and for all? Are we willing to take Jesus′s mission seriously?
