HelpTelly
All of a sudden video blogs and video sharing sites are appearing all over the place. People are broadcasting just about anything from their front room. YouTube have been in the news this week over the proposed plan to offer music videos for free and instead of suing them, the music industry this time around seems to want to be in on the action. There is also Google Video and many other sites where you can broadcast or just view.
These site are full of all sorts of rubbish, but there are some useful things out there too. How many times have you typed "howto" or "tutorial" or just simply "help" into Google, in search of an explanation about how something worked? Software, electrical problems with the car, perfecting the ultimate recipe… This is an area where online video is going to have a huge impact. There are many computer tutorial sites around that expect you to part with money. But there are now hundreds of free online video tutorials around on YouTube, GoogleVideo and other sites.
What if rather than wade through a manual, some very kind grown-up person had done all the hard work before and shares the information with you in a 2 minute video. And how about when your dad rings you to ask how to download his photos from the digital camera for 10th time, why not send him the url to a video howto tutorial instead.
A good place to start is HelpTelly, a new vblog I started that aims to point you in the right direction.
37Signals highlight the next obvious step - do away with those poster size quick set-up guides altogether and just download a video to your latest ipod.
